In this talk, I'll describe some of the contributions I've made to the field during the last 5 years. I'll present three of the fundamental problems in the area namely medical image registration, segmentation and classification and introduce some of the mathematical and computational methods used to tackle them.

In particular, we'll discuss how medical imaging problems can be solved from two different perspectives: modelling and learning. For modelling, I'll introduce the framework of discrete probabilistic graphical models, and link it to the image registration problem.
